Hasbro and Integrity Toys are releasing a line of redesigned Jem dolls. I was super-excited about this until I saw this line from the press release:

"This first doll in this exciting commemorative collection will be JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Special Edition Doll: HOLLYWOOD JEM, one of the most requested animated-based looks. This doll will be available for purchase at the HasbroToyShop booth #3329 during Comic-Con International in San Diego at an approximate retail price of $125 and following the convention, at www.HasbroToyShop.com."

ONE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS?????? *dies* See? This is why I'm not in the hobby anymore. I love the look of the doll, I love that she has an articulated body, but I just can NOT justify spending over a day's wages on a doll. Looking over Integrity Toys' site, I guess they don't make playline-priced dolls anymore.

Wow. From a high of "OMG I love her, I want her!" to a low of "Holy shit, really, Integrity and Hasbro? Really?" in less than five minutes.

I'm still going to watch the line, though. I've love to see the designs for the other Holograms, the Misfits, and the Stingers.

...wait until you see the prices the scalpers will get for her, after the dolls are sold out. (There are reports of preorders offered on eBay for $300.) This is completely par for Integrity dolls. Janay is a long-faded memory.

I suppose the phrases "commemorative collection" and "special edition" should have tipped me off. Despite the fact that they're making them because the cartoon series got high ratings on The Hub, they're definitely hitting the nostalgic collector market, not the new, original-target-age-fan market.

And since they're collector dolls, we probably won't even see any parted out, to get a look at the "all new articulated body" they made.

So the question becomes, if you think you could sell one on ebay for $300 dollars, is it worth the day's wage then? ;)

No, because I've learned the terrible lesson, "Just because other people can sell it for $300 doesn't mean you can sell it for $300." I don't look at things with an eye for, "I can resell that," because every time I've tried, the object in question never sells for anything more than pennies on the dollar of what I originally paid for it. Also, buying to resell would negate the whole, "I want one!" Buying to resell would mean leaving it MIMB, when I want to take it out and play with it.
