What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Western. Like Midland, Western is another accent that people consider neutral. So, you might not actually be from the Western half of the country, but you definitely sound like it.

And if you're not from the West, you are probably one of the following:
(a) A Pittsburgher - the quiz can't tell the difference;
(b) Someone from Canada (probably southern Ontario) who doesn't have a Canadian accent;
(c) Someone from northern New England who doesn't have a New England accent; or
(d) Someone from Texas or the Heartland who was born after 1980.
You are definitely not from New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Detroit, the Deep South, etc.</font>

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

I was raised in the outer fringes of the Pittsburgh dialect area, by Pittsburgh-dialect parents, and went to college in the Pittsburgh dialect area. However, I now live in the West. :)

1. You can ONLY answer Yes or No.

2. You are NOT ALLOWED to explain ANYTHING unless someone messages or comments you and asks. -- and believe me, the temptation to explain some of these will be overwhelming nothing is exactly as it seems. Now, here's what you're supposed to do. . . Copy and paste this, delete my answers, type in your answers and tag as many of your friends as you'd like to.

IO9 recently created a (admittedly very subjective) top 100 scifi shows list. How many of them have YOU seen?

Let's take a Fantastic Voyage... )

Better than half, so not too bad.  The older shows killed me.  And Outer Limits, but no Twilight Zone?

Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" (or you can just ask for the meme, I won't mind) and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

Power Rangers
- I can see that, as MMPR was what started our friendship on its current course. I started watching it my senior year, and taping it since you didn't have cable or satellite yet. We stuck through MMPR, Zeo, Turbo, Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force (where we started the short-lived tradition of getting together for the premieres), Wild Force, Ninja Storm, DinoThunder (featuring the return of Tommy Oliver!)....and then tapered off, as they started to just really lose cohesion.
PR reminds me of long nights at sleepovers, running through scenarios and rp sessions that would become part of our universe fanon, yet never be written down. Notebooks being swapped at homeroom, lunch, gym class and chorus. And of course, the immortal conversation ender, re: why Jason was the leader: "Because he has the biggest Zord."

Writing
-Heavily tied into the above. Yet, the first "story" I wrote was back in Limestone, when I was in Girl Scouts. It was about a troop with my friend Kelli Schoonover, going to a makeup shop. All the other Scouts in the story bought green makeup (to match their uniforms) while Kelli bought different colors.
I wrote fanfiction before I knew it had a name. I remember jotting down an opening to a sequel to Tad William's Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series in the blank spaces around the church bulletin. Those were always favorite scribbling spots. Yet, I managed to quickly write a poem that my mother gave to the minister, to see if he wanted to perhaps put it in the church newsletter. We didn't stay for the service that day, so you can imagine my shock the next week when I found out that Gary read it, and decided it fit the sermon he was giving that day. And he read it aloud, during his sermon. That's something I kind of wish I could go back and hear, to see what was said about it.
I miss writing cohesive fiction. I haven't written anything complete in ages.

Bicycles
-Really? I haven't ridden one since high school; Jeff appropriated mine to use with his friends. Then again, seeing as I ran over one of his my senior year (he had two)... My high school boyfriend was obsessed with bicycles, wanting to be the next Greg LeMond (I think Lance Armstrong beat him to it). Although, I was thinking about that yesterday morning. My clock radio is set to the classical station, and the announcer was talking about the movie Breaking Away, and the Italian Symphony that was used in it. The movie inspired Dana to shave his legs...too bad he chickened out after only shaving one. And then wore shorts to school.

Sailor Moon
-Ahhh, the anime gateway drug. I recently sold my DVDs of the movies, and if I can get in touch with Scarlet Otter, I'd send him the rest of my 6" and 12" dolls for his Vixen-Alpha series. But, because of Sailor Moon, I have my username (also related to Power Rangers), even if it did make the guys at MWD think I was in the Navy. :-P Without Sailor Moon, I never would have found Fushigi Yuugi, Revolutionary Girl Utena, or even really ventured into the anime sections at Blockbuster, Movie World, Hollywood Video, or Netflix.

Usenet
-Just the other day, I was thinking about Usenet: afs-m, rssif, The Sandbox.... Otaku Wars; finding both The Strong & the Sequined and On the Edge at rssif, which inspired me to write/post Designs of Greatness; how continually asking about female action figures at The Sandbox led to an invite to Men With Dolls. If YSU's news server had carried afp-r, I'd have been around there, too. I sort of miss Usenet; it seems to have been replaced by message boards and blogs.

From Facebook:

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you.

1. I've been tagged by three, count 'em THREE people to do this.

2. I don't like re-tagging or making people do things, so I'm just tagging the three who tagged me.

3. I've lived in three states since I got married: Ohio, North Carolina, and Arizona.

4. I don't mind being in rush-hour traffic if I'm driving, and the only one in the car.

5. I can't wear my hair up in the car, either driving or as a passenger.

6. It took me 14 quarters and a semester to get my bachelor's degree, but now I have a job I totally love that I don't even need the damn degree for.

7. Babies and children scare me. I'm not comfortable around them, I can't understand what kids are saying, and I have no idea how to act around them. This bothers me, because I used to be fairly okay with kids. Somewhere along the way, a switch flipped, and now I can't be around them.

8. Because of the above, the fact that I have PCOS isn't as heartbreaking to me as it is to most women who are diagnosed with it.

9. If I had my way, I'd be a hermit. I don't like large (or small!) groups of people. I like being at home.

10. I don't like being overweight and unhealthy, and I don't like that I don't have the motivation to do anything about it other than hate it.

11. I stopped going for a geology degree when I realized that I can't see in microscopes. But I still like going to awe-inspiring natural places. In the last year, I've been to the Grand Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano, the Petrified Forest, and the Painted Desert.

12. Two years ago, I went gluten-free.

13. I have four cats: Dante and Athena, littermates I got in October 1999, when they were 9 weeks old; Patch, my husband's cat, who's about the same age, and is the last of the litter his older cat had the last time he was in Arizona; and Scamp (aka Underfoot), less than a year old, who came running across our path about two months ago. They all fight with each other.

14. My shoes are quite attractive to Scamp. He sticks his head fully inside the shoe (when it's off) and attacks.

15. I haven't felt rested since 1996, and my doctors have no idea why.

16. I hate housecleaning.

17. My house doesn't have any fancy floor coverings. It's just the bare concrete pad. We pulled up the 30-year-old orange carpet two years ago, but haven't had the money to get new flooring put down.

18. I haven't seriously written anything fiction-wise in over a year, and it hurts.

19. When I see a tree marked for removal or topping, it hurts.

20. I love thrift stores, and there are a LOT close by.

21. I'm the only one in my family that doesn't like strawberries.

22. I prefer vegetables to most fruits.

23. I'm on a quest to create the perfect hot chocolate recipe.

24. I have to go to bed soon.

25. I seriously want a Dr Pepper.

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

sailorzeo: (Default)
I got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] twigling

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

1. Hilary and Hailey Duff, "Our Lips are Sealed."
2. Avril Lavigne, "Skater Boy"
3. Dream, "He Loves U Not"
4. Stacie Orrico, "Stuck"
5. SheDaisy, "I Will...But"
6. KT Tunstall, "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree"
7. Daniel Powter, "Bad Day."

I gently tap: [livejournal.com profile] jetwolf, [livejournal.com profile] alessar, [livejournal.com profile] stephaniejane2, [livejournal.com profile] cheekyerica, [livejournal.com profile] mimisgrotto, [livejournal.com profile] sapphirerose924, and to get her to do something in her journal (which she won't anyway, but hey), [livejournal.com profile] penprp.

On another note, I'm seriously considering taking a chat hiatus next week, especially after last night, when I didn't get offline and go to bed until 1:30 am. Yes, I took a nap that afternoon, and yes, I did drink triple-strength coffee that evening, but still, the stimulus that kept me awake was chat. And I'm up until after midnight most nights unless I make a conscious effort to get offline and go to bed earlier.
I've been SO tired at work these past few weeks. Next week would be sort of an experiment, just seeing if I don't have the chat programs running, if I go to bed between 10 and 11 pm, do I sleep better, feel more rested in the morning? The logical answer would be yes. But I want to see for sure. There could be other factors, such as the bed, Matt's snoring (despite the earplugs), etc, that are contributing to the constant exhaustion. My doctor's ruled out pretty much every medical reason for my fatigue, and thinks it's most likely stress.
So, possibly starting Sunday night at 10 pm, I may be turning off Yahoo Messenger and AIM. There's only two people I really talk to online anymore anyway, and I'll let them know personally when I decide whether or not I'm doing this.

If I do go through with it, I give it until Wednesday night before I'm in screaming withdrawl. :-P
