I broke down and bought myself a new toy last weekend.  I picked up the Opera browser package for the Nintendo DS.  No, I'm not making this post from it, but I have made comments from it.

There was a slight learning curve, figuring out what display modes work best for me, and we had a little trouble getting it to access the home network (Matt eventually just had to unsecure the network, I think), but I have a small favorites list building on there and I plan to take it with me on the trip back east to access e-mail and whatnot while in the airport for layovers.  The laptop takes too long to boot to use it for that purpose.

However, I did have trouble getting it to connect to the wi-fi access point at Fry's (grocery store) yesterday.  It couldn't pull an IP address, and kept saying to "move closer to the access point."  Great, but y'know, those things aren't exactly in plain sight.  :-P  I'll keep trying, though.

One of the last times I was in a Kroger, I looked up and saw a wireless router stuck to the ceiling. My-Matt and I guessed maybe it was to network with their hand-held price scanners, but, maybe not. Y'never know.

Hmm. I did look at the ceiling in the lounge-type area, but didn't see anything. Plus, I only had a few minutes before I needed to get back to work, so I didn't spend time fiddling then. But since Kroger and Frys are the same company, maybe they used the stick-to-the-ceiling approach, too.
