Bloodletting
Oct. 10th, 2005 02:10 pmSo I had my appointment today. I'm now off the metformin, as it didn't agree with me, and going back to Sugar Solution and exercise. She ordered more bloodwork, to check my iron levels (looking for another reason for the fatigue before going to depression). Plus, I now have a nifty little glucose monitor, an Accu-Chek Aviva, and she wants me to test my levels 4 times a week, twice in the morning (fasting) and twice 2 hours after a meal.
The only strips/lancets I have are what came with the machine, ten strips and 12 lancets. I'm down to 7 strips and 9 lancets, as they used one of the strips to show me how to use the machine, and I used two of them trying to get a reading. My fingertips just didn't want to bleed enough. But I looked at the cost of strips at CVS?? Holy cow, it's over a dollar a strip!!! Walmart.com didn't have the brand I need listed, and I didn't see any monitors at all listed at Target.com. So, I went to the BCBSNC website, and signed up for the qualifying questionaire to qualify for reimbursement. We don't have a spare $50-$100 lying around to buy test strips with, alas.
Although, I was amused when the nurse asked if I had diabetes, and I replied, "Not yet." :-P I don't want diabetes, I want to get out of being pre-diabetic, so I need to diet and exercise.
And no more Golden Grahams. I was told those were not a good cereal choice for me. :-P
