So I go to the library, thinking I want something fluffy to read. I come back with four CSI novels (among other things, including the 2 most recent Meredith Gentry novels). Problem was, staring at the generic fluffy novels, nothing appealed to me. So I'm looking for suggestions. I know I want to read Wicked, but it's all checked out, with like 32 holds on it in the system. If I put a request in for it today, I might get it by April...or August.

So, list me some good books. Romance, mystery, science fiction, fantasy, classics... I'm just not as up on new releases as I used to be. Help me out, list me some titles or authors to look into.

You could try other books by Gregory Maguire, like Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister or Mirror Mirror. For an interesting twist on Victorian fantasy, try Libba Bray's Strange and Terrible Beauty and the companion, Rebel Angels. Billed as YA, but still juicy. If you like mystery/fantasy, you could always try some of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter novels by Laurell Hamilton. The earlier ones are the best. Oh yeah, and Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding is hilarious in the romance department. I'm sorry that I have no god non-fiction recs, but all I have been reading about is cemeteries, death and genealogy.

P.S. Does this book look interesting to you? I have a copy that I'm done with, so I could send it to you.

--Anita Blake: Read all, own all. :) And yeah, the early ones, when it focused on the crimes rather than the sex, were the best
--Bridget Jones: Read. :)

I'll look for the other Gregory Maguire ones, but there were none on the shelf at the library. Making a note of the other ones (nothing wrong with YA! After all, isn't that what Harry Potter technically is?), and yes, that book does look interesting. It seems reminiscent of Olivia Goldsmith's books, and I enjoy those.

The "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon - start with "Outlander." It's not the sort of series you can read out of order. The books are 900 pages on average, so they ought to hold your attention for a bit, and most libraries seem to have them.
