tea and spice and milk...
Sep. 9th, 2006 12:02 pmI got hooked on Oregon Chai brand chai tea lattes in college. Despite trying a myriad of other brands, mixes, concentrates, bags, and whatnot, I always came back to the Oregon Chai concentrate.
Yesterday at Lowe's Foods, I found Oregon Chai brand teabags, in black, red, and green tea varieties. "Ooh," I thought, looking at them. Then I saw the price. "Yikes," I thought. I don't remember if they were $7 or $8, but either way, too expensive to try on a whim.
But wandering around the store, we found a couple carts of markdown merchandise: dings, dents, discontinued items. And there was a box of the Oregon Chai black tea chai bags. Half price. It looked like the only thing wrong with it was the box had been slightly mushed, popping open the side seals. The bag of teabags was still sealed. So we decided to give it a try.
The bags themselves are pretty nifty. They're like a cloth mesh, rather than the paper filter-type bags. I couldn't find any information on the box about the bags, so I went to the website, and still no info as to what the bags are actually made of. Oh well.
I have a bag steeping right now, in preparation to be made into a chilled latte to take to work tonight. I hope it's as good as I remember.
