Whaaa??
Okay, so I went ahead and let Windows update whatever it was it was updating. Turns out to be IE. Okay, no big deal. So it's all updated, and I managed to change most of the things it auto-changed that I didn't like. But there's one thing that I don't know how to turn off.
When I scroll, it KEEPS SCROLLING. Usually, I scroll down one click of the wheel at a time. Just bumping the page up or down, really. But now...I turn the wheel one click, it scrolls down that click...pause...another click...another click...another click. WHAT?? It can get annoying; I'm used to being able to scroll just to where I need to go, and then as I stop scrolling and start moving the mouse to, oh, I don't know, fill in a field, suddenly that field is a few inches above where I expected it to be when I STOPPED SCROLLING.
This is not helping my headache. I tried unclicking "smooth scrolling" and restarting IE, and it still was jerky. Other than "Switch to Firefox or Opera or anything else cause IE is EEEVIL," are there any suggestions as to how to fix this?
ETA: I think I fixed it. I realized, on a page that was all text, no pictures, that it wasn't doing that funky extra scrolling thing. So I looked under Multimedia, and unclicked "Smart Image Dithering" (I think that's what it was). Went back to a site that had the scrolling, tested, and voila, just one click at a time. Yay me.
Now if I can just get the address bar UNDER the "File Edit View" bar. :-P
ETA2: IT'S DOING IT AGAIN!! I DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE!! WTF???

Installing another browser is out, huh? Maybe try reinstalling Windows and NOT downloading IE7?
In all seriousness, I have yet to hear anything but horror stories about this thing, and zero fixes for any of those many, many problems. I know I don't dare touch it; with bug fixes for the previous IE coming out up until the release of 7 (and new problems found all the time), I have zero confidence in the company to not utterly compromise my system. But that's me.
I think the thing is, the people outside of MS who would most know how to fix and tweak the new IE won't go anywhere near it. The best I can suggest is to Google it daily until you can find a fix. Good luck.

(Anonymous) 2006-11-20 04:26 am (UTC)(link)The only thing I wish Firefox would do better is bookmark management. I can't move things around as easily as I could with IE. But that's not a reason to risk my system.
